Hearthstone also has solo adventures that you can purchase with either real money or a lot of gold and the player will gain access to more cards that are exclusive to that adventure. After awhile, I realized that I really wanted to expand my card collection, but I really didn’t want to go through the grind of saving up all of the gold so I caved in and bought some packs with actual money. A card pack consisting of 5 cards costs 100 gold. The quests will usually offer 40, 50, or 60 gold depending on the difficulty of the quest. The standard way of acquiring packs in this game is to just keep playing games against other people and acquiring gold for completing quests. In the case of Hearthstone, it is a game that I just want to acquire all of the good cards in the game and build a solid all around deck that I can climb high up the ranked ladder with.

If I put some money into the game, I can quickly upgrade my defenses or my troops and then get right back into the battles again. As we discussed in class today, I get this urge to just get things done instantly instead of having to wait for something to finish which in the case of Clash of Clans can take a few days. Two examples of games that I have put some money into are Clash of Clans and Hearthstone. I will be the first to admit that I have fallen right into the trap of micro transactions that are present in free to play games.

If you guys have any games that you think are unique, I would love to hear them. I like the idea of drawing inspiration from other games to make new and compelling mechanics, lest we be stuck in a world full of Call of Duty or Minecraft clones. What I like the best is that the game sounds daunting at first, but it’s actually pretty easy to pick up and get going. As you get better at the game, you focus less on keeping tempo and more on trying to get the highest score. This can make for pretty exciting playthroughs as you could tunnel into a room with dragon or find a powerful weapons that lets you bulldoze through the level. Since the game is rouge-like, each time you play a level, the dungeon will be different along with the creatures in it. This may sound complex, but attacks are done automatically as the player comes within range of an enemy. The player must progress though each dungeon while following the beat of the song. This game combines elements of dungeon crawlers, rouges, and rhythm games. I believe this game is available for just about every modern platform.
